What is a Registered Dietitian?

“Registered Dietitians (RD’s) are health professionals who are uniquely trained to provide advice on diet and nutrition for the treatment and management of nutrition-related disease.  They also provide nutrition counseling to promote and support wellness and disease prevention.  Their culinary and food service training provides the knowledge and skills to analyze and develop recipes with a focused nutrition profile to address various health conditions.  Registered Dietitians (RD’s) are the only nationally recognized experts in food and nutrition science.  Anyone can claim they are a “nutritionist” or “nutrition expert” and provide advice on diet and weight loss.  Having the RD credential means that the nutritionist has the education, training, and background to be able to provide science based nutrition advice.”
