Urban Nutrition, LLC has a strong belief in philanthropy and both Nicole and Jessica participate in volunteer projects throughout the year. Each project has a core focus of bettering the health and well being of the community through nutrition education, a mission integral to the vision of Urban Nutrition, LLC.
Cooking Matters teams the culinary knowledge of chefs with the nutritional knowledge of dietitians to create a dynamic learning environment aimed at “…empowering families with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to prepare healthy and affordable meals.”
The annual festival held by the Dallas Area Coalition to Prevent Childhood Obesity celebrates the health and wellness of children in the Dallas area by creating a fun filled, information packed day providing many opportunities to ”get physical”.
The Dallas Dietetic Association teamed up with Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert and Dallas ISD Superintendent of Schools, Michael Hinojosa, to create a groundbreaking nutrition education program focused on high school freshmen. This programs aims to educate students about healthy choices they can make to reduce their risk of obesity and the development of type 2 diabetes.
Days of Taste aims to educate school children about taste by focusing on how each of our senses influences our experience with the food we eat. They are also taught about various aspects of the food web from growers, producers, farmers and bakers. This unique field trip culminates with the opportunity for the kids to practice what they’ve learned by shopping and preparing a Harvest salad at the Dallas Farmer’s Market.
